Why Preschool Gymnastics?

These days, there are numerous extra-curricular activities available for your preschooler. As parents, we often struggle with finding balance—which activities are worthwhile for my toddler? How can I maximize my time (and checkbook)? Is it possible to over-schedule my child?
With all of the options available, why choose gymnastics?
  1. Gymnastics Sets the Foundation for Future Movement

Evidence from around the word now shows that early work in motor development has positive effects. Children actively involved in a motor skills program such as gymnastics will score higher on later motor development measures. Activities such as rolling, spinning, balancing and swinging all affect vestibular stimulation. These activities, which can all be found in gymnastics programs, have been shown to help your child to become more coordinated and more physically confident.
  1. Gymnastics Helps Children Follow Directions

Learning to follow directions is a very important life skill. In gymnastics, children are given specific directions to follow. Often, coaches will tell children the skill and then also show them. Coaches use positive feedback to encourage children to pay attention and participate in class. This helps children learn discipline, patience and respect.
  1. Gymnastics is About Goal-Setting

At Tumblebees, we work on a three-week rotation. Children will repeat activities for three weeks, which helps them learn the skill, practice it and by the third week, master that skill. Children love knowing what to expect on the third week. It gives them an opportunity to work toward a goal and in the process, develop a commitment and perseverance—skills they can take with them for the rest of their lives. As kids get older in gymnastics programs, setting goals becomes even more essential—hitting a back handspring, a front hip circle on the bars or a leap on the beam.
  1. Gymnastics Can Positively Impact Learning and Academics

Multiple studies have linked participating in gymnastics with better grades and more success in school overall. Even our preschoolers are practicing eye-hand coordination and auditory and visual processing activities. For instance, learning to walk hands across the bars (from left to right) can help with reading, and understanding that we read from left to right.
  1. Gymnastics is FUN!

Ultimately, we all want our children to find joy in their day. We want to make sure they are genuinely enjoying whatever activity they do. Gymnastics brings children joy. It is a fun, engaging sport that children of all ages enjoy. Jumping on a trampoline, flipping over a mat, swinging on a bar, climbing through a pit—children LOVE gymnastics! And parents can appreciate all of the energy children expel in each class!

Gymnastics is a wonderful sport for all ages. And at Tumblebees, our goal is to be your child’s richest preschool activities experience. We are committed to helping kids develop their physical aptitude, fitness, sport and life skills.
Tumblebees’ preschool programs for children from birth to age five have been carefully designed to feature gymnastics as the ideal foundation from which children can base all future movement and sports skills.  Motor coordination, social and emotional growth are strengthened by our fun, developmentally appropriate activities.  All of our instructors are fully trained so that they guide each participating child through specific skills to achieve optimal development. And as children grow, Tumblebees has multiple activities children can choose from in addition to gymnastics, including:
  • Trampoline and tumbling
  • Dance
  • Parkour
